If when you try plugging in your GPS device, your computer isn't recognizing it, the first thing to do is check a different USB port on your computer and that you're using the provided Lezyne USB cable. You'll definitely want to plug it directly into the computer and not through a peripheral device like a keyboard or a USB hub as well.
Note: If the computer sees the device but the updater application doesn't, unplug any other device plugged into your computer. Our updater might be looking at the other device rather than your GPS device.
Occasionally, some Macs or some Windows 10 systems have trouble recognizing the device if you've never updated before. If you have a Windows 7 machine available to you, it might be worth trying it for your initial firmware update. After that first update, Mac OSX or Windows 10 should no longer have any trouble recognizing the device.
If your device is still not being recognized, it might need to be connected in bootloader mode.
Note: Bootloader has different button combinations for the Mini/Micro Devices, Super/Macro devices, and Y9 devices.
Bootloader Mode
- In your preferred browser, navigate to http://www.lezyne.com/
- At the top of the main page, there are six headers: Products, Athletes, Blog, Tech Support, Purchase, and GPS. Under GPS, select Update GPS Unit.
- Just below the image of our current devices are the links to the Mac updater and the Windows updater for Y10 and newer devices (Y9 is at the bottom of the page). Click the appropriate link for your system.
- There are a number of ways your operating system and your browser might handle the download. Make sure that the updater file is downloaded and saved to your computer. Then, run the updater.
- To get the updater to recognize the GPS device and immediately do a firmware update...
- Hold down the Enter and Lap buttons while plugging it into your computer for a Y10 Super GPS, a Y10 Macro GPS, or the Mega GPS devices.
- Hold down the Enter and Menu buttons while plugging it into your computer for a Y10 Micro GPS or a Y10 Mini GPS.
- Hold down the Menu and Lap buttons while plugging it into your computer for a Y9 Super GPS, Y9 Power GPS, or Y9 Mini Gps.
Here's a video that goes over this process as well.
Note: Anytime you do a firmware update by connecting the device in bootloader mode, you have to force a second update after that. If you don't, you may experience issues moving forward.
Force updating the device
- In your preferred browser, navigate to http://www.lezyne.com/
- At the top of the main page, there are six headers: Products, Athletes, Blog, Tech Support, Purchase, and GPS. Under GPS, select Update GPS Unit.
- Just below the image of our current devices are the links to the Mac updater and the Windows updater for Y10 and newer devices. Click the appropriate link for your system.
- There are a number of ways your operating system and your browser might handle the download. Make sure that the updater file is downloaded and saved to your computer. Then, run the updater.
- Plug in your GPS device using your Lezyne micro USB cable. If you use another cable, it has to be a data micro USB cable, or it will only charge the device.
- Go into the pull-down menu. On Windows, the firmware updater has the pull-down menu in the upper right hand corner where it says Lezyne Gps Firmware Programmer.
On a Mac, the pull-down menu is next to the Apple icon in the upper right corner of your screen where it says Lezyne-Firmware-Programmer.
- Select Force update.
