We're happy to offer Navigation options on our second generation, model year 10 (Y10) GPS devices and newer. There are a lot of ways that the feature can be utilized which will fit the need of most riders.
Point A to Point B directions
This is the quickest and easiest way to get turn-by-turn directions on a Lezyne device, but it is only in one direction. You won't be able to make a loop or follow a specific route.
- Ensure that your GPS device and Lezyne Ally app are connected.
- Navigate to the Navigation module in the app.
- Type in a location or tap on your desired location on the map.
- The device will ask you to confirm that you want directions to that location. Select Ok.
- It will then present different route options based on the mapping services that we utilize. Select one by tapping on its line on the map.
- Select Go, and the app will send turn-by-turn directions to your GPS device.
- Note: Once the app has sent the directions, you no longer need a connection to your phone unless you go off route and need re-routing.
In app route building
You can build a route, of any length or any shape, right from your app and save it for use at any time.
Note: any route you build or import into your account can be stored on your phone by hitting the tapping the circular arrows at the top of the Saved Routes page in the Ally v2 app. If you don't select this, you will need a data connection to load a navigation file.
- Ensure that your GPS device and Lezyne Ally app are connected.
- Navigate to the Navigation module in the app.
- In the upper right corner of the screen, is three lines (iPhone) or 3 dots (Android). Tap them.
- Select Create Route.
- Type in a location or tap on your desired starting location on the map.
- Repeat step five to create as many waypoints as is necessary to build your route.
- Once finished, either save and name the route, or select Go and the app will send turn-by-turn directions to your GPS device.
- Again: once the app has sent the directions, you no longer need a connection to your phone unless you go off route and need re-routing.
Importing a TCX file to the Lezyne Root site
There are some important differences between a TCX file and a GPX file for our devices. A TCX file can provide turn-by-turn directions and your current relationship to a polyline of the route. One of the easiest places to create a TCX file, that you can both load to your Lezyne account and share with friends, is Ride with GPS. You can create a free account and build a route there.
- Once logged into Ride with GPS, select Plan at the top of the page.
- Type in a location or click on your desired start location on the map.
- Repeat step two to create as many waypoints as is necessary to build your route.
- Save and name your route.
- Select Routes at the top of the page.
- View the route you just created.
- Select Export in the upper right corner.
- At the top of that column, select the TCX Course link, and the TCX will begin downloading.
- Log into your Lezyne Root account.
- From your Dashboard, hover your mouse over Device Features, and select Routes.
- In the upper right corner, select Upload GPX/TCX Route.
-
Select Choose Files.
-
Navigate to where your browser downloaded the TCX file from Ride with GPS.
-
Select the file and open it.
-
Select Upload. The site will then show you your list of saved routes.
- With your device connected, navigate to the Navigation module in the phone app.
- In the upper right corner of the screen is three lines (iPhone) or 3 dots (Android). Tap them.
- Select Saved Routes.
- Select the route you just loaded.
- Tap Go.
Note: When you convert a ride file to a navigation file on sites like Strava or Garmin Connect, they are still just a collection of GPS data points. They do not have turn-by-turn directions encoded in the file.
Importing a GPX file to the Lezyne Root site
GPX files are a lot more common than TCX files currently. You might download one from Strava or be sent one in advance of a gran fondo or race. No matter where it comes from, it is important to remember that a GPX file is just a list of GPS points; it does not have turn-by-turn directions encoded into the file format. When using a GPX, as mentioned previously, the GPS device will only display a screen showing your proximity to the route, i.e. whether you are on it or not. While maybe not the most detailed of the options, this is still quite useful in many situations.
- Log into your Lezyne Root account.
- From your Dashboard, hover your mouse over Device Features, and select Routes.
- In the upper right corner, select Upload GPX/TCX Route.
-
Select Choose Files.
-
Navigate to where you have the GPX file saved.
-
Select the file and open it.
-
Select Upload. The site will then show you your list of saved routes.
- With your device connected, navigate to the Navigation module in the phone app.
- In the upper right corner of the screen is three lines (iPhone) or 3 dots (Android). Tap them.
- Select Saved Routes.
- Select the route you just loaded.
- Tap Go.
