If you are using the Radar Ally app while your light is also paired to a Garmin or another ANT+ lighting-enabled GPS head unit, you may notice that changes you make in the app (such as turning the light off or changing the mode) appear to be immediately undone.
Why This Happens
ANT+ head units such as Garmin Edge devices can take control of connected lights through the ANT+ Lighting Network feature. When the head unit is set to manage the light network, it becomes the controller and automatically restores its preferred light settings whenever a change is detected, even if that change was made from the Radar Ally app over Bluetooth.
This behavior occurs when the light's Network Mode on the Garmin head unit is set to one of the following:
Auto
High Visibility
Trail
In these modes, the head unit coordinates the lights in the network to follow its lighting profile. As a result, any mode change made in the Radar Ally app can be quickly overridden.
How to Prevent Conflicts
To control your lights from the Radar Ally app while still connected to your Garmin head unit:
On your head unit, go to Menu > Sensors > Lights > [Your Light] > Network Options.
Change Network Mode to Individual.
When Individual is selected, the head unit will no longer issue lighting commands, allowing the app to control your lights independently over Bluetooth.
Note
Each manufacturer implements ANT+ Lighting differently. Consult that manufacturer’s documentation for details on managing network control and light modes.
